Dehradun : Political activity within the Uttarakhand Congress has intensified following a letter reportedly written by state in-charge Kumari Selja regarding the proposed yatra of former Chief Minister Harish Rawat. Selja has requested Rawat not to proceed with the proposed yatra and other parallel programmes.
Harish Rawat’s supporters, however, argue that reaching out to people ahead of the elections should be viewed as an effort to strengthen the Congress and reconnect with its grassroots base, rather than as a parallel or anti-party activity.

In her letter, Selja reportedly pointed out that the proposed yatra had not been discussed with her or with the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president. She also referred to some of Rawat’s recent statements and stressed the need for the party to remain united as the state moves towards the upcoming elections.
Selja has requested Rawat to refrain from taking the proposed programmes forward.
Rawat Supporters Raise Questions
Supporters of Harish Rawat maintain that the former Chief Minister has remained closely connected with Uttarakhand’s political landscape and that his interaction with workers and the public can strengthen, rather than weaken, the Congress organisation.
According to his supporters, Rawat’s proposed political outreach should be seen as an attempt to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence and reconnect with voters.
They have also questioned whether a senior Congress leader’s public outreach could not be coordinated with the organisation and incorporated into the party’s broader political campaign instead of being viewed as a parallel programme.
Internal Churning Intensifies Ahead of Elections
With the upcoming elections approaching, organisational unity and coordination among senior Congress leaders are expected to remain crucial for the party in Uttarakhand.

Against this backdrop, Selja’s letter and the proposed yatra of Harish Rawat have once again brought the Congress’s internal dynamics into the political spotlight.
Harish Rawat’s official response to the letter is awaited. For the moment, his supporters continue to view the proposed yatra as an initiative aimed at direct public outreach and strengthening the Congress’s grassroots support base in Uttarakhand.
